Meryl Streep to Transform into Maria Callas for Next Film Role

Meryl Streep is about to get her Greek on. The Oscar winner who’s tackled some of the biggest roles in Hollywood— including Margaret Thatcher, Anna Wintour and Julia Child— will transform herself into Greek American opera legend Maria Callas in a film version of Terrence McNally’s play “Master Class” for HBO.

According to the exclusive news from The New York Daily News Page Six column, Mike Nichols will direct the adaptation of the Tony-winning play about iconic and temperamental diva teaching students at Juilliard in 1971.

According to Hollywood sources, filming will begin in January.

In the original play, Callas reminisces about her storied career and personal life, which included being dumped by Aristotle Onassis for Jacqueline Kennedy.
