George Katsimatides, 52, of New York has been diagnosed with kidney failure and is urgently seeking a kidney donor compatible with blood types B and O.
The Pappas Post received notification of the news via email from George’s sister, Anthoula Katsimatides, an Astoria-based actor, writer, producer and voice-over artist known for her work in The Wizard of Lies (HBO), The Family and Adult Beginners.
The full text of Anthoula’s email including contact information and details about her brother’s medical needs follows below.
I hope this email finds you and yours well.
This is difficult for me but I need to share some unfortunate news, in the hopes of helping my brother. About one month ago my oldest brother, George Katsimatides, was diagnosed with kidney failure. His kidneys are currently operating at 15%. Finding a kidney donor is urgent at this time.
George is only 52 yrs old, Blood type B and compatible with blood type B & O. George is otherwise healthy with no other contributing illnesses like diabetes, uremia, fluid retention, toxicity, etc. He is currently feeling fine, dieting, exercising and doing his part to avoid dialysis, which can be quite debilitating. George, my mom and I are optimistic, but we are overwhelmed so please limit your contact unless necessary. Of course, prayers are always welcome.
We need to find someone willing to be a kidney donor ASAP. Please help my family spread the word far and wide. Ask those you are in touch with through your community, church, social media networks, etc. If you know any medical professionals we would welcome their guidance and advice. We are currently dealing with both NYU and NorthShore Health transplant teams. If you would like to talk confidentially about kidney donation, feel free to call NorthShore at 516-472-5800.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Should there be a donor who is not a Type B or O, there is a procedure referred to as “Incompatible Kidney Transplant” which makes it possible for incompatible blood types to proceed with a transplant.
Of course, feel free to contact me via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I can give you more detailed information as well.
My family and I greatly appreciate your efforts.
