Coming to Greece will be a sort of “homecoming” for Sam Ioannidis, who has been appointed general manager of the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens.
Born in Frankfurt to Greek parents, the bilingual Ioannidis grew up in Germany and Greece, eventually heading to Toronto, Canada – the hometown of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts – to earn his hospitality degree and begin his career.
The new property is meant to open in 2018, and will be the first Four Seasons to open in Greece, taking over the property that operated as the famed Astir Palace for decades.
“In addition to his talent as a hotelier and his leadership skills, with more than two decades with Four Seasons, Sam’s recent track record of establishing a new hotel and successfully bringing it to life while embracing the local community make him the ideal candidate to introduce Four Seasons in Greece for the first time,” said Simon Casson, president, hotel operations – Europe, Middle East and Africa for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
Joining the company in 1998, he rose through the ranks in the food and beverage divisions of both urban and resort hotels in North America before heading to Europe for his first general manager assignment at Four Seasons Hotel Baku.
Shortly after, he opened Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island in 2016.
