In a new development, reported by the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine during the negotiations in Brussels, German finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble is openly lobbying for a Greek exit from the eurozone.
“These proposals are missing centrally important areas of reform to modernize the country and to advance on the long term economic growth and sustainable development,” he told the newspaper.
Schäuble also said he rules out any debt restructuring since it is not permitted according to European Union treaties.
He did call for humanitarian aid for Greece.
