On Saturday, October 18, 2014, hundreds of members of the Greek Orthodox community of New York City and the nation were on hand for the ground blessing of the construction site where the new St. Nicholas National Shrine will be built. The new shrine, a fully functioning Greek Orthodox Church, as well as an international place of reflection for all visitors to the area, is expected to be completed in 2016 or 2017.
