A paint bomb attack on the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Athens took place overnight by approximately ten members of the anarchist group Rouvikonas.
Black paint was tossed in the white wall outside the Official Residence, which is located in a quiet neighborhood just above the Embassy in central Athens.
U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt called the vandalism “childish” in a morning Tweet from Athens.
“Kalimera, I woke up to more childish vandalism this morning outside the residence and will continue to work with Greek authorities to punish the culprits according to law. Destruction of property is not peaceful protest,” Pyatt tweeted from his official account.
Greece’s Foreign Ministry was quick to condemn the attack with a statement that praised the country’s relationship with the United States, adding that police and other security officials were already in the process of apprehending the perpetrators.
The group has targeted other American sites in Athens, including the building of the Hellenic American Union and Hellenic American College and University, where they vandalized the front entrance and tossed flyers throughout the building that carried messages against U.S. support of Israel.
