Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Meteora, in central Greece is one of the nation’s most visited places by locals and foreigners alike.
First inhabited in the 11th century by Greek Orthodox monks, the site consists of six remaining monasteries built on top of sandstone peaks of land masses that jet from the earth below like columns.
At its peak, the monastic community boasted 24 monasteries
Meteora, in Greek, means “suspended in the air” which refers to the monasteries which appear to be so close to the heavens on top of their perches.
Filmmaker Max Seigal captured 3 stunning minutes of Meteora from above with a unique bird’s eye view rarely seen, given the height and location of these remarkable formations.
