Ever wonder about the screen siren giving you the smoldering stare on your way into Cleo Restaurant in Hollywood, California? Known as “The Vamp,” silent-film star Theda Bara was one of Hollywood’s first sex symbols. At the height of her fame, she was as well-known and beloved as her contemporaries Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford. Unfortunately, a 1937 fire destroyed almost all of her films. Only a few seconds of footage remain of her most famous role – the one she’s playing in the photo – the Greek queen of Egypt, Cleopatra. Watch the video to see surviving footage.
