More and more, people are spending Fall and winter holidays in Greece, thanks in large part to inexpensive flights across the Atlantic and dirt cheap domestic flights to dozens of destinations.
We scan the various websites on a weekly basis. This week we found flights from various North American cities to Athens $393 round-trip.
Although the cheapest tickets to Greece are from the New York City area, solid deals can be found as early as November and as late as May 2018, before prices begin to hike in anticipation of greater demand as the weather warms up.
In January nonstop flights with Emirates to Athens are $433 round-trip– cheaper than a flight from New York to Los Angeles, making it all very possible to literally head to Athens for a long weekend of bouzouki clubbing and even a bit of sightseeing.
Aegean Air, Greece’s main carrier for domestic destinations also offers some great winter sale fares. Round trip flights from Athens to places like Crete, Thessaloniki and Rhodes can be found as low as $49, depending upon the date and time.
To book your winter getaway to Greece, use Skyscanner to search for the cheapest travel dates from your departure city.
A word of caution– when you find a low fare that meets your budget and date preferences, book it immediately as fares can change at a moment’s notice. It’s not that airlines are watching your browsing and tricking you by raising your fare– it’s all automated and based on algorithms.
You can also install the Skyscanner app on your mobile phone and track the flights yourself.
After you install the app on your Apple or Android phone, you set an alert for your desired departure city, followed by your arrival city. You select your dates and set the alert. Periodically you’ll get updates on your phone when low fares are available.
