Day two of President Barack Obama’s official visit to Athens, Greece– only the fourth sitting American President to visit Greece– included a visit to the Acropolis and surrounding sites and a tour of the Acropolis Museum.
The President’s motorcade traveled to the city center from the Astir Palace resort in Vouliagmeni where his delegation is staying to take in the Athens sites before giving a historic speech at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.
The speech was supposed to be given at Pnyx Hill, an ancient site considered to be the birthplace of democracy, but plans for the open space were scrapped following an attack on the French Embassy in Athens a few days prior to Obama’s arrival and security concerns at the open space.
