Hundreds of guests got a sampling of the award-winning White House cooking team led by Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford, who’s held the post since 2005.
In the past events have featured celebrity chefs like Cat Cora, Michael Psilakis and Maria Loi, who brought their recipes and worked with White House cooks to implement the menus for the several hundred invited guests.
This year, the effort was led exclusively by Comerford and her team.
Since Greek Independence Day always falls during the Greek Orthodox Lenten period, there are always plenty of Lenten offerings on the menu for those who follow the fast, with other traditional meat-inspired meals for those who do not.
The meal was spread across two rooms— with a large dining table in the State Dining Room where official dinners hosted by the President are held, with the imposing portraits of President Abraham Lincoln on the wall.
The East Room— the location of the President’s remarks, also had a food station and a full bar.
