The provocative world premiere of Marian Berges’ The Medea Hypothesis opened last weekend at the Central Works Theater at the Berkeley City Club in San Francisco. Critics say it’s the ancient Greek tragedy with a modern twist compounded with and sometimes confounded by a cross between an edgy fairy tale and a horror film. Jan Zvaifler’s Em (the modern-day Medea) is a successful fashion designer betrayed by her husband Justin (like Medea was by Jason) and challenged by motherhood and her job.
