“From the horrors of war to volunteering their services to the flooded villages of Trikala. From the bombs and bloodshed… Volunteerism, giving and concern for fellow human were victorious on Saturday.”
With this official statement, the city of Trikala in central Greece wished to acknowledge dozens of Syrian refugees who are currently held in camps nearby, who came to assist in the distribution of water and other supplies to native Greeks who suffered catastrophic floods over the weekend.
Specifically, according to the official statement, the villages of Fotada and Kaloneri were left without drinkable water when reservoirs were flooded and services to the drenched villages were cut.
Volunteer groups— together with dozens of Syrian refugees, rushed to help to carry cases of water to the victims.
