Thirteen years after My Big Fat Greek Wedding hit cinemas and became one of the biggest selling romantic comedies of all time, cameras are scheduled to roll in Toronto on the sequel.
Producers have booked space at the city’s Revival Studios from mid-May to the end of June.
Writer and star Nia Vardalos announced last May that a sequel was in the works. She recently posted on her Facebook page a photo of her and director Kirk Jones holding a script.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding, set in Chicago but mostly filmed in Toronto, premiered in April 2002. Made on a $5 million budget, it went on to gross a whopping $369 million worldwide.
In addition to writing the second “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, Vardalos will come back to star as Fotoula “Toula” Portokalos.
John Corbett will also return as Ian Miller. Also returning are Lainie Kazan (Maria Portokalos), Michael Constantine (Kostas Portokalos), Andrea Martin (Aunt Voula), Louis Mandylor (Nick Portokalos), Gia Carides (Cousin Nikki), and Joey Fatone (Cousin Angelo), as well as Stavroula Logothettis, Ian Gomez, Bruce Gray, Fiona Reid, Jayne Eastwood, Arielle Sugarman, and Frank Falcone.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is one of those classic, go-to movies for anyone with Greek ancestry. It’s so easy to relate to the characters and the situations the characters get in! It will be interesting to see what they do with the sequel.
