Spend the summer studying filmmaking or acting for film in the birthplace of western civilization— not to mention theater and drama, with the New York Film Academy’s Athens programs. The New York Film Academy’s Athens programs offer intensive and challenging courses in filmmaking or acting for film, for both adults and local, commuting teen students.
NYFA Athens filmmaking students will gain hands-on experience with the entire process of making a film, from inception to a finalized version. Courses will introduce the fundamentals of screenwriting, directing, cinematography, producing, and digital editing, with students directly applying what they learn to their original projects. In production, students rotate through various crew positions to gain better understanding the demands of the production process and in developing well trained, versatile, and talented young film professionals.
The NYFA Athens acting for film workshops are led by trained experts, offering students hands-on experience to prepare them for the rigors of creating a believable character on an active film set. Acting students will collaborate with their filmmaking peers as actors in original student films. In addition, acting workshops will also be filmed. This gives acting students a great deal of practice time and exposure. At the end of the program, students will leave NYFA Athens with evidence of all their hard work: a professionally edited digital reel of their on-camera performances.
There are several programs, including 4, 3 and 1 week workshops, as well as a 1-week camp for teens in both filmmaking and acting.
Serious students are encouraged to apply, and no previous experience is required. Whether students choose to study with NYFA Athens for one month, three weeks, or one week, they will be required to work hard, commit to a full schedule, and bring their best energy to class every single day.
Upon successful completion of each program, students are awarded a NYFA certificate.
