Globe Entertainment, a music and artist production agency in New York City announced it will present Greek legend George Dalaras in a multi-city tour in North America. Dalaras, Greece’s biggest selling musical artist in history. The tour will begin with a show in New York City on November 20th at Town Hall. Dalaras and his group will perform in theaters across the United States and Canada, eight years after this last tour.
“Rembetiko Unplugged” is the title of this grand musical journey, which is a tribute to rembetiko music— also known as “Greek Blues” music. This is a style that George Dalaras has approached with consistency and knowledge throughout his career. In the past, critics in Europe have tied these rembetiko performances with flamenco and fado. Possessing a deep knowledge on the style, Dalaras is one of the singers credited with revitalizing rembetiko music in Greece, making its timeless elements known to Greeks and European audiences, alike.
Dalaras started his singing and musical career during a turbulent time in Greece, when the military dictatorship took power and tanks were commonplace in the streets of Athens. As a result, his music has been influenced by political and societal movements of the era. His self-titled debut album was released in 1969.

In his 40 year singing career, Dalaras has released or collaborated on more than 120 albums, performed thousands of concerts globally with some of the world’s top orchestras and venues and has appeared on tracks with such greats like Sting (Mad About You), Bruce Springsteen, Emma Shapplin, Al DiMeola and Paco de Lucia, to name a few.
Two historic concerts occurred in the Athens Olympic Stadium in the 1980s, attended by more than 160,000 people. This was the largest attendance at a Greek concert— ever, to the point where Rolling Stone magazine commented that Dalaras was responsible for the birth of the stadium concert era in Greece.
He has sold more than 15,000,000 records in his career and was even invited to sing for Nelson Mandela on his birthday.
On his North American tour, Dalaras will perform songs by Markos Vamvakaris, Vasilis Tsitsanis, Apostolos Kaldaras, Apostolos Hatzichristos, but also songs of important Smyrnaian composers such as Vaggelis Papazoglou. George Dalaras will sing and play (guitar, bouzouki, and oud) with an exceptional orchestra and with two great singers: Aspasia Stratigou, a collaborator in recent years, and Athina Lambiri, who is at the beginning of her career.
With them is singer-musician Vasilis Korakakis, son of the great folk composer, Vaggelis Korakakis and eight excellent soloist-musicians that will “dress up” the songs with their craftsmanship and taste. They are: George Papachristoudis (piano), Thanasis Sofras (bass), Hristos Zervas (guitar), Andreas Katsigiannis (santur), Dasso Kourti (accordion), Giorgos Matsikas and Konstantinos Gedikis (bouzouki), and Vasilis Korakakis (song and bouzouki). George Dalaras selected the music for the performances and he in collaboration with George Papachristoudis made the orchestrations.

Sure would be nice if some of these Greek singers would come entertain us Texas Greeks every once in a while. Between Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, I'm pretty sure we could fill a venue pretty nicely.
No west coast dates at all. Vancpuver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas!!
Please come to Florida!!!
Come to Cleveland. You're my favorite Greek Artist since the 70's.
And if I had read to the bottom: Sunday, November 30: Chicago – Harris Theater
Please consider coming to Portland/Seattle !!
Absolutely. West coast would be awesome. Las Vegas!
Would be nice to see this make it a little west of the East Coast too.
Agreed. We are in Dallas, TX and we would definitely attend and make it known out there. There are a ton of Greeks in the south and it would be amazing. I don't think a lot of people realize how many there are of us here in the south. I went to a YAL function once in FL and the Northeast Greeks had no idea we existed in Texas. Plus we have way bigger venues here.
Anna Dirickson we are always interested in developing new markets and there was a time when such tours would stretch to 10-15 cities in north America. A cultural center or organization can contact us to discuss further.
Demetria Kalfas-Gordon see the answer above in regards to the south. The west is a very similar situation.
Thanks! Just send you a FB message.
