Within every problem lies an opportunity. When the crisis hit Cyprus last June, cinema funding was the first thing to go and local filmmakers had to become creatively resourceful in order to keep working. Director/Producer Stelana Kliris designed a film that could be made on a shoe-string budget without losing its substance. With a crowd-funding campaign, the support of the Greek Diaspora and an angel investor, the film was funded and shot over the summer.
The film premiered in Cyprus last week to critical acclaim and a lot of hometown support.
The film, entitled Committed, is a road trip movie set in Cyprus about a chance meeting between a man being pressured to propose to his girlfriend and a runaway bride. It is an English-language romantic comedy about love, marriage and commitment.
The film was shot entirely in Cyprus across 25 locations in a record 17 days. It stars Melia Kreiling (The Borgias, The Bible, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Orestes Sophocleous.
