With the impressive and imposing backdrop of one of America’s most iconic skylines, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral celebrated Good Friday with a traditional procession of the kouvouklion and epitaphios that symbolizes the funeral procession of Jesus Christ.
The procession, led by Fr. Stramatios Sfikas, Dean of the Cathedral, took place in the city’s streets, with neighbors and bystanders awe-struck by the beauty of the unique candlelight vigil led by the empty crucifix and flower-adorned kouvouklion that was more reminiscent of a Greek village than a major U.S. urban center.
