According to a story in Deadline, an online source for Hollywood news, 12 years after it was released and became one of the biggest independent films of all time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is getting a sequel. Gold Circle and HBO will produce the film. Nia Vardalos, who wrote the first, has written the second installment and will star with John Corbett, her groom in the original film directed by Joel Zwick. Also back is the big, fat Greek and brash Portokalos family.
Deadline states that Rita Wilson is producing with Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman.
“Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story,” Vardalos said in a statement, and also confirming the news on her Facebook page.
“Of course a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.”

why now? why not ten years ago? isn’t this just grasping at straws like the awful TV show they tried to squeeze out of this idea?
Vinnie obviously has no understanding of the concept of “Greek Time”!
With all of the Greeks that I associate with at my church, I can see that — in Greek time — this is just about the right time for the 2 year sequil…
I like what she stated about having experienced motherhood. I think the reason other sequels have flopped is because they tried to continue the story instead of telling a new one. Parenthood is completely different from courtship and is a whole new story line.
12 yr. later. Wow!
Nice, looking forward to it!
Now it is my Big Fat Greek Buttock!
That's awesome. !
